közel Tatsunochō-tominaga, Hyōgo (Japan)
The trail head is not very conspicuous and the walk to it is not very interesting but the trail up the west face of Katayama has a steady ascent on a smooth trail through a very pleasant environment. There is a nice view of the "Shingu Alps" across the valley and the south face has an excellent view of greater Tatsuno and surrounding areas. The descent down the south face is paved but the only traffic you're likely to encounter will be deer as the road is closed to cars unless the antenna at the top of the mountain needs some kind of maintenance.

Make sure it gets closed properly. "Hike at your own risk." is posted.
