The Lighting Lakes Chain is an easy hike with little change in elevation. We hiked from Lighting Lake day use area along the south shore and then on to Flash Lake and finally to Strike Lake. Lightning, Flash, Strike, and Thunder are good names for the lakes along the chain. A moose was spotted across Flash Lake. We were surprised that Lightning Lake drained east at the dam to the Similkameen and the opposite westerly direction to the Skagit watershed. It is likely the dam raised the level of Lightning Lake to direct the majority of the flow to the Skagit adding flow to the Ross Lake power project.
A bridge over a creek flowing into the west end of Lightning Lake
This bridge is over the outflow of Lightning Lake along the Skagit drainage. This flow was much greater the the flow at the east end at the dam towards the Similkameen
This campsite on Strike Lake is closed
An opportunity to cool feet on the return
Either the beavers were giants or the snow was high when this tree was toppled by beavers.
