közel Puerto de Güimar, Canarias (España)
The route initially follows the coast then heads inland and eventually climbs steeply to the top of the volcanic cone, Montaña Grande, before a steeper scramble down to the lava plain and the final section back to the starting point. Stay on the main trail, rather than branching off to the cone, if you don't have much of a head for heights.
The main trail is easy with well defined paths underfoot, mostly rocky with some sandy spots. The lava cone ascent is sandy and moderately steep. The cone descent via this route is somewhat difficult as the lava rocks are very loosely packed and good balance is required as you slide your way down (sturdy shoes are recommended)!
