This is a very easy hike through the gorge of Zeza stream. I don't usually like relaxing walks but I really liked this one. Zeza stream is located only 20 km from Tirana, between Kruja mountain and Gamnit mountain. It stems from the mountain of Skenderbeut and after meeting Terkuza stream and Lana river forms the Ishmi river which flows in the Adriatic sea, near of Rodoni cape.

Take the main road from Tirana to Shkoder. Turn off right at the sign Nikel, before reaching Fushe-Kruje and follow the road. The road turns to be dirt when approching the Buran and Kurcaj village. The trailhead is after passing the old bridge. The path is broad and very easy to follow. At the waterfall you can follow the way back from the other side of the river. We forgot to do so because we met some shepherds on the way back.

One way hike is 2.1 km and the entire walk could be less then two hours.

Let me now how did you like this trail.

We did this hike today - after a few weeks of forced rest and recuperation - and we enjoyed it very much! There was a lot of water in the canyon, as now the snow melts. Do you know what these ovens (kilns) along the trail are for (photo on my website)? It must have been an old tradition, though now people seem to "burn" stuff with old car tires....Best, Detlef

Good to hear you enjoyed it! I saw your pictures, very nice shots. Did you find the waterfall (second picture in this post)?
The ovens are for burning lime. It's a big problem in Kruja region the lime burning with old car tires. Best, Endrit

yes, we had a short glimpse of the waterfall. The crossing looked scary, and we were not yet sure-footed again to hop to the other side, so we didn't see it in full. But sometime we will!

That's a pity you haven't seen it in full. Maybe the crossing has been destroyed. Two time I have been there the crossing has been very easy. I'm also planning to go further in the canyon.

We have followed your route today with children. We have seen the tyres, "ovens" and we have found the waterfall. The crossing is feasable, but it requires some manoeuvres. There was also a strange metal rope extended across the river between one of the oven/stoves and and a mountain in front of it. There is a nice picnic area close to the river just before the canyon gets narrow.

The canyon is very nice. I am not an expert on steel cables, but I think they are used to ferry wood from the mountains to the ovens. But I haven't seen this in action....

Zeza canyon trail. After crossing the old bridge, 600 metres on, the track passes into a limestone quarry through a rusty barrier. Signs of recent blasting. It appears the trail has been obscured and no way could be found along the river edge into the gorge. Perhaps we went wrong somewhere? Or recent activity destroyed things? 12 October 2014. Baldushk.

I was there end of September. It's true that after limestone quarry it's a bit difficult to find the trail. One has to go down towards the river and there you will see a very good path that travels along the river. The limestone quarry destroys
    that part of the trail.

Hi Endrit! Thanks for your advice last week.We found the trail.Turning right before the building in the quarry we picked up the trail just before it turned corner into gorge. We didn't reach waterfall, because of my age (66) and my two artificial hips!

Easy nice hike, in the begging of the path pay attention because it is not always clear.

SOS - do not go to this trail as the quarry next to it has proven to be dangerous!!!!

  • Ilia А 2021. nov. 9.

The quarry became bigger and you cannot pass through its territory or around. There should be some paths around but this route ends right after the bridge! But the Ottoman bridge is still there and it’s very cute!
