Itinerary description
This tour starts in the centre of Ampleforth, where there are two public houses and limited parking long the road for cars. The village has very attractive housing along its main street.
The public footpath starts from the main street and at its commencement goes through two very imposing stone pillars; in May, there are rhododendron bushes alive in colour just after these gates. There is then a steep climb up a tarmaced drive before the path reaches fields. At that point there are wonderful views towards the hills in the far distance.
The footpath passes near Studford Ring, which can be seen as a circle of trees, but not visited, unfortunately, before reaching the road.
The route continues along this road (High Street) before meeting a broad footpath which that goes through College Moor. This is a very attractive part of the tour - in April/May there are banks of forget-me-nots giving splashes of colour.
Eventually, the footpath joins Westwood Lane that eventually joins the main road leading back to Ampleforth.
