Itinerary description
Started from intersection of O'Briens Road & Bluegum Track.
Followed Bluegum Track for 7 km till West No 1 Tk. I was expecting West No Tk 1 to be overgrown with plants but it wasn't the case. It ends in 1 km past the intersection, so to get to Watties Gully, I headed N-NW first, then followed a dry creek bed.
The water level in Watties Gully was quite low; only a few spots where the water was above ankle level. However there were a lot of fallen trees, so it wasn't always straightforward to follow the river bed.
After exploring Watties Gully for a bit, I decided to climb up to the rim to hit Hogan track. I started climbing a bit past three pink ribbons hanging on the trees (probably attached by hikers doing the Old River Circuit to mark the climbing spot), however in the end, I ended up on the same ridge :) so, if you do this hike and come across these pink ribbons, keep in mind it is a good spot to start climbing up. Of course, depending on how much you would like to explore Watties Gully, you can always select a different climbing spot.
