Efficient Exercise Walk from ANU

Itinerary description
Starting point is a parking lot across from a power substation. It is also good to walk from various points on campus, including perhaps detours through the botanic gardens, although, after hours, the gates between the garden and the reserve (and CSIRO areas to the east) would be closed. There is also an informal trail from the intersection of Clunies Ross St and Dickson Road that goes along the east side of the gardens almost to the parking lot. Most of this trail is marked by dashes on OpenStreetMap, but the beginning is not.
Most of the trail is asphalted, but at the end, the right branch is especially rugged and hiking boots would be a good idea (wouldn't hurt on the left, either!). Technically, it's all 'easy', but the climb would count as 'exercise' for the average out-of-shape academic.

Here you have a choice 1) stop & return 2) go straight up to get to the summit 3) take the left branch for a longer and more leisurely but 'informal' approach to the top with some nice view of the city 4) take the left for a more rugged experience (hiking boots recommended)
don't turn right ...
unless you like steep and slippery downs
